Information about working as a specialist in Poison Information (SPI)
American Association of Poison Control Centers Certification: After working at a poison center for at least 1200 hours and handling at least 2000 human exposure cases, SPIs are eligible to take the certification exam. Finding a job: 55 poison centers across the USA are independent. Staffed by Specialists in Poison Information(SPIs) that provide toxicological information and guidance via the telephone. Presently, foreign and domestic MDs are working SPI's, along with nurses and pharmacists. Salary survey for SPI’s in 2016 range $45,000-$168,500, dependent on experience, background, hours (PRN/FT/PT) and locale.
